Honestly don't agree, the point of any company is to make money. If you make a game that's not meant to make money you can give it away for free.
The issue is people either don't know how to make money off of game or only care about pumping and dumping. In the US you make money by making games for cheap that someone plays for a few days, finishes, then moves on. In the east you make money by making Genshin Impact, fill your game with micro transactions, add some kind of PVP preferably not live PVP because the servers will suck, make it so summoning the same character over and over against makes it stronger so whales whale harder. Asians love that shit especially if there's zero male characters in the game.
for new developer's i would say, try to make a business you can make profit from. so much profit that you dont need to run the business, and with your share of the profit go make your own game you want. with or without help from other devs but then you need to pay their bills at least.
I keep going back to Skyrim because no other game has captured my imagination since Iin the way Skyrim has. Before that it was DS and gameboy Zelda gsmes. I’ve completed the same gsmes 5-6 time over not because I know I can. But because it is compelling and fun. No new game has encouraged that repeat gameplay like Zelda as a whole of Skyrim as an isolated moment. And it hurts me deeply to think of that fact
In addition to escapism, which can be necessary, especially in today's world but can also be detriment, I believe games are a learning tool. Play is seen so often as recreation but is used by animals as a way to learn and grow. I think we are wired to enjoy play because it's evolutionarily beneficial but because we enjoy it it is seen as not practically beneficial. Only suffering is seen as beneficial but with the correctly designed game we can grow and enjoy ourselves while we do it.
another reason it is a bad idea in general and it sucks triple a do this is ive noticed in multiplayer sorta competitive games or not cause not all of them are companies will focus on that aspect and will even make it p2w cause in a competitive game everybody wants to win but that in turn takes away some of the experience every micro p2w transaction thats added to the game like people see it they instantly get turned off depending on how p2w it is and dont even bother understanding the games mechanics or get an appreciation for it idk if im wrong this is just thoughts about why gaming is so bad compared to before
And here the turn around all the guy wanted to know what game's he should get to play 😂 (and as precaution that's just a lil bit of trolling no need to get Madge)
Who are these stupid people in his donations all the time with questions like that?? You would already know what hes gonna say to that if you just watched him for 2 hours… And if youre someone who donates i hope you watch this guy longer. And still he only gets stupid questions. At some point they would just stop wouldnt they? It should make click in peoples brains and then stupid questions are of the past. But not happening.
do NOT buy cosmetics or micro transactions, vote with your wallet
we are in the hellscape that we are now because of dipshits that wanted gold horse armor, and if you keep buying into that slop, 5 years from now you'll have to pay for golden horse teeth.
Don't treat games like an investment strategy, treat them like an art and if you fund an artist to do a retreat and make stuff, you wouldn't expect them to produce you an art piece that is guaranteed to make you a return on your investment. You're doing it so they can get better at their art and show how they've improved in the time that you gave them to work on their pieces.
Now if you do that, and give a good game dev their proper time, you will probably make your money back, but you shouldn't expect it. If it happens, it's a bonus. if it doesn't you still got a good game out of the situation.
I honestly understood that question as, "I used to not be able to afford video games, but now I can. What games would you recommend?" I did not expect for a moment for this to be about business.
Former Game-Dev here. The amount of times I had to actively have this conversation with other devs was astounding. Games are escapism. For fun. If it's not fun, we shouldn't be building it. Some studios have completely lost the plot.
I always noticed that Gamers should really be the greatest anticapitalists. They see the faults of the system first hand, every game is ruined bc they sell unfinished games to sell more dlcs. The season pass, pay to win, every game is just about making money. They don't care about making a good game anymore because all they care about is Money! This isn't greed, this is capitalism. They have to make ever growing profits because they would run out of the Business if they didn't because of competition.
Gamers, if games already suck so much because of capitalism, imagine how bad other industries have it. For Example the healthcare industry! Join your Union and support unions!!!
And if anybody replies:
"greed is human nature and that is why capitalism is human nature"
capitalism is only 300 years old
we had other system before it, this is proof this isn't "human nature"
second of all: even if greed is human nature, why should we have a system in place that REWARDS GREEDY BEHAVIOUR how about we have system that punishes it? The most greedy people have the Most power. If we punish this behaviour we could take all the money from elon musi f.E. and give it to the homeless or people in need)

It's not that hard to understand that a good game automatically brings the mulla
Gaming is PASSION
Wrong. The point of gaming is to have a storefront for digital clothes.

start with the game not with the money. If you start with the money, you will be forced to create a game that caters to the money, not the player.

It seems that every single game that has done well has put the soul/art/craft/experience first…. Money follows
You can only ride IP and BS so long as
