A lot of things went up into ridiculous territory in the past 10 years. Price on used vans became five figures. Of course real estate went up everywhere. Perhaps the low paying interest on accounts by banks had something to do with it…people spent their money instead of putting into savings. And of course, loan rates were historically low. My prediction is Lego will come down in price like everything else as bank rates increase.
Lego is cool n all, but I have to question the adults who obsess over it. Instead of playing with and obsessing over children's toys, go instead and start a family. I promise you your children will love it more than you and you will be so much happier sharing your enthusiasm with them than being an old lonely weirdo who keeps it all to himself. Your Legos will not make you happy in your old age, your family, children, friends are what actually matter. The connections and the meaningful memories you shared are be what you will value and look back on in the end.

To my knowledge what also saved the company was to enter into the digital world (movies, games…).
I cannot fully agree with how they try to justify their very high prices. Of course as the market leader they can be the most expensive ones but what is not ok that the quality is sometimes worse than from the much cheaper competitors. Lego uses even on very expensive sets cheap stickers instead of printing the details on the bricks and as well quite often the colour quality is not the same from different pieces of the same colour. For example COBI which is also an European brand, has on all sets only prints, top quality and all made in EU and still it is much cheaper than Lego. If Lego is number one and so expensive, then at least be the best on the market. But as long as the fanboys buy whatever they sell, nothing will change. Don’t get me wrong, I love and loved Lego but this is what I see.
